As you can see, there are a lot of potential benefits to the 1000W KingLED grow light. Let’s take a closer look at some of these features.

KingLED Grow Light Review – Grow Light Features

PAR Output and Coverage

1000w KingLED grow light review PAR output

The PAR value is one of the most important things to consider when it comes to investing in a grow light, and the 1000W KingLED grow light provides some decent numbers here: 2000 µmol/m2/s right in the center when hung at a height of 12 inches, which, as you can see above, is considerably higher than some of their competitors.

KingLED claims that this high PAR output is due to their optical condenser that gathers scattered light. This optical condenser works with the LEDs to provide high energy efficiency of 2.8 µmol/J. And it does all this while only consuming 145W of energy!

While the manufacturer says the maximum coverage area is 3.4 x 3.8 feet, this is probably a little generous if you want your plants to have somewhat uniform coverage. Instead, this light is better suited for about a 3 x 3-foot coverage area during the vegetative stage and 2.5 x 2.5-foot coverage during the flowering stage.

The 1000W KingLED grow light uses 10W Epistar chips, which provide a lot of power for what is essentially an entry-level grow light. Similar products typically use 3W or 5W LED chips, so these 10W diodes stand out among the competition, and customers seem to agree that these are some of the brightest LED lights available at this price point.

Since they provide more power than the others, the light from these 10W diodes can penetrate more deeply into the canopy than their 3W and even 5W counterparts.

Why don’t more grow light manufacturers spring for the 10W LEDs? The main reason has to do with heat output, as the more powerful diodes typically give off more heat than the weaker ones. Not all grow lights have an efficient enough cooling system to handle this additional heat.

Cooling System

This King grow light comes with a thickened LED board with holes in it to handle the extra heat emitted from the 10W diodes. Their boards are about 3mm thick, opposed to the 1.6mm boards used by some competitors.

To further help with heat dissipation, it also comes with multiple quiet internal fans and an aluminum heat sink. This allows the lightbulb to work from 50 degrees Fahrenheit – 60 degrees Fahrenheit, which is a lower temperature range than other lamps, according to the manufacturer. The LED lights are also individually separated with their own resistances to help avoid burnout in case there are any powerful current flows.

KingLED grow light review: cooling system

With all of these different cooling systems working together, you can ensure that your plants won’t get burned and can reach their final stages of growth. Effective cooling systems also help contribute to a grow light’s lifespan, which is 50,000 hours plus with this unit.

That being said, some customers don’t seem to think that the heat dissipation is all that great with this product. They claim that this unit gives off quite a bit of heat thanks to the powerful LEDs, though it is not a hopeless situation. People have been successfully using exhaust fans in their grow tents and rooms to help with heat dissipation.

Full Light Spectrum

Full Light Spectrum King LED

KingLED has adjusted its spectrum to better match the ideal light conditions for growing plants that require more light, so you get full-spectrum light from about 380nm to 780nm, including UV (which helps kill bacteria) and IR (especially good for plant growth and stem elongation). This is a great spectrum for growing plant types that will thrive under these lighting conditions.

KingLED grow light lighting modes

You can further customize how much light your plants are getting by using the veg and bloom modes appropriately. The veg switch is ideal for the germination stage, while the bloom switch is best during the flowering stage. Then, turn both modes on for the fruiting stage for best results.

KingLED Grow Light Review: Customer Service

Good customer service can be a hard thing to come by when it comes to purchasing products online, and for the most part, this company doesn’t seem to disappoint its consumers. The KingLED 1000 watt grow light comes with a 3-year warranty and free returns for 90 days, which is much better than the typical 30 days that you often see with similar products.

They also claim to get back to you within 24 hours if you have any questions or problems, and some customers have indeed been pleased with their prompt and professional service.

What Are The Disadvantages?

There doesn’t seem to be any major disadvantages to this KingLED grow light, more just a lack of certain desirable features. For example, this unit is not waterproof, so it isn’t the best choice for outdoor grow tents or greenhouses.

Although there are the veg and bloom switches to adjust the lighting, the lights themselves are not dimmable. So, if you really want to customize the lighting on your plants, you are better off with a different product.

For those with bigger gardens, it is also important to note that these grow lights do not have a daisy chain feature. You can potentially get around this by using a power splitter, but it is a bit of an inconvenience.

Finally, there is the potential heat issue that was discussed before. Now, this doesn’t seem to be a big issue with every customer, so it may just be under certain circumstances that the unit seems to get too warm. Again, an extra exhaust fan should help with heat dissipation if you find it to be an issue.

KingLED Grow Light Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, if you are thinking of purchasing a KingLED grow light, you will probably not be disappointed with your choice! Though we have concentrated on the specs for the 1000W KingLED grow light, the other grow lights in this series, the 600W and 1200W, have all of the same features. Therefore, if the only thing keeping you from buying this unit is that you need more or less power, check out the other options to see if they better suit your needs.

If you are looking for a grow light with a high PAR value, decent plant coverage, powerful and bright LEDs, full-spectrum coverage, AND good company-backed customer service, then it may be worth your while to invest in a KingLED grow light.

Though some people may doubt the quality of these grow lights as they are a lot more affordable than many of the top brands, you are getting a good bang for your buck here. No, it’s not perfect, but it is a good value, especially for beginner growers who are still figuring out what they are doing with their indoor plant garden.
